East Grinstead Swimmers achieve National Times!

East Grinstead Swimmers Ben Brown (16) and Tom Lamb (17) both achieved their first National Qualifying Times at a Gala in Portsmouth recently - meaning they are eligible to enter the top National British Youth Championships in Sheffield in August.

Tom was first up in 400metres Individual Medley, and after an impressive butterfly leg, he took a commanding lead, which he continued to increase with every stroke. Having lapped other swimmers, he battled against the clock, and finished in 4mins.40.95 secs, 0.8secs inside the limit. Tom is also the the Junior Sussex Champion in 400IM, 200IM, 200 breaststroke and 800 free.

Ben swam the 50m Freestyle event at the end of the competition, winning comfortably in 24.63 seconds, 0.25 secs inside his National Qualifying Time. He holds the titles of Junior Sussex County Champion 2009 and Sussex Schools Champion 2009 for the same event and is currently ranked 12th nationally in his age group.

When interviewed, Nigel said " I am extremely proud and delighted at the boys' achievements! It is not often swimmers achieve National times and for a small swimming club to achieve two in the same competition is outstanding"

We need your help! We are always looking for parents to help with the running of the club.

Are you interested in teaching, helping at galas, being on the Committee, fundraising?

Like any volunteer run organisation we rely on the help of parents to manage the club. If you are interested in teaching, please contact our Coach, Nigel Hitchcock, who will be happy to explain how you can help.

If you would like to help at galas, or just help raise money for the club, please contact our Chairman Mandy Brown.

Please leave a message on the Committee page.

Four swimmers from years 10 and 11 at Sackville achieved a magnificent 4th place at the recent English Secondary Schools Relays Championships, held at Gloucester.

Zara Williams trains at Crawley Swimming Club, whilst Hannah Sawyer, Gabby Kent and Francesca Mitchell all train at East Grinstead Swimming Club.

They had qualified as only 6th fastest from their regional heat, but improved their time to 4th fastest on the day. This is the third time in as many years that Sackville have made the finals with a girls team, but this is their highest ever finish.
