1

Listen when the coach is speaking

Keep you head above water until instructed to swim. Pay attention, if you don’t hear or understand something, ask!

2

Leave an interval between yourself and the swimmer in front of you

This is generally 5 seconds, unless you are told differently by your coach.

3

Do not stop in the middle of the lane

Overtake at the end of the lane, never stop mid-lane to allow someone to pass. Once someone has passed you see rule 2

4

Fastest first, slowest last

Be mindful that this may change depending on stroke or distance being swum.

Always check your position in the lane, if swimmers are bunched up behind you prepare to drop back.

5

When turning, swim across the lane then turn

The turn should be as straight as possible, like you would in a race, as opposed to a diagonal push off!
