Last weekend 20th & 21 st October was the weekend of the Sussex Short Course County Championships at K2 in Crawley.

We had 28 swimmers from East Grinstead Swimming Club racing against swimmers from clubs from all over the county. To be able to compete in this championship swimmers needed to reach high qualifying times which is an achievement in itself and we are very proud of everyone who took part.

Congratulations to the team, Grace, Mia, Milla, Bethany, Alex, Orla, Lillie, Chloe G, the other Chloe G, Jessica, Gabi, Laura, Katya, Ella, Mya, Joseph L, Arabella, Freddie, Joseph O, Ellie, Poppy, Hannah, Barney, Robert, Oliver T, the other Oliver T, Ruby and Freya who all swam fabulous races and in the majority of cases obtained excellent personal bests.

East Grinstead Swimmers amassed 20 medals over the weekend and although a coveted Gold always eluded us, the team attained an incredible 9 silver medals and 11 bronze.

16 years old category

  • Joseph O’Neill
    • 100m Freestyle – Silver
    • 200m Freestyle – Silver
    • 200m Breaststroke – Bronze
    • 100m Individual Medley – Silver

  • Oliver Thomas
    • 50m Freestyle Medley – Silver

Joseph O’Neill reached the Championship Final of the 100m Individual Medley in the open category (16 and over). In a very exciting race he came 6th place and gaining a personal best that rewarded him with a place in the Regional Open Championships in Portsmouth next weekend. We wish Joe and also Ed De Barra who will be swimming in the 100m Backstroke category at the championships all the best in the competition.

Once again we congratulate each and every swimmer that took part in the County Short Course Championships last week. It was a brilliant weekend and the swimmers produced stunning swimming.

Thanks to all the coaches, team managers and volunteers who attended or helped organise it as well. As always, we couldn’t do it without you.
